What Causes a Double Chin?
A double chin is not fun and can make you suffer from stress.
A double chin is caused by a layer of subcutaneous fat around the neck that sags down. This creates a wrinkle, making a person look as if have a second chin.
Double chin is more visible when the bottom jaw is lowered. It is most common on the elderly and the obese.
There are three main causes of double chin: genetics, slack facial muscles, and caloric intake.
Take a look at your parents and other family members. Do they have double chins? If they have, your double chin could be a hereditary disposition.
Another cause could be extra body weight. Overweight people typically have double chin. You could be storing excess fat under your chin. Certain body parts are more prone to storing body fat - the chin area is such as area.
Water retention is another cause. Are you a water retainer?
Normal aging and maturity process is one more cause. Are you seeing signs of aging? Are you an older person? Double chin is the normal sign of aging. In other words, double chins are side effects of getting older.
Also, as you age your skin looses its elasticity. So even if you are not overweight, you may still have a double chin due to looser skin.
